| Your article struck cords in me, and let me show you why. I am a writer (no, not a published one). Here is a cut from the intro to a novel I am writing...
In an age of man when technology ruled the Earth, there came to be a great repository of knowledge compiled to help advance man’s place in the universe. A great web spread across the Earth for the first time connecting individuals into a greater collective conscience. This pulsing thrumming web became almost a living thing, growing in size and intelligence in leaps and bounds. However, there were unforeseen consequences to this bold new idea. A new form of life was taking shape inside this web as it drew into itself not just the information of the current day but also the thoughts and deeds of men long dead, the images and creations of people and places long forgotten. Thus, a thriving microcosm was born. Men became unknowing, uncaring gods to this new world, this alternate universe, their whims and pleasures drastically altering, creating, and destroying with no regard for the inhabitants within....
Some of the people I shared my ideas with looked at me like I had gone psycho on them, and I had difficulty explaining the concept of mere words creating worlds to those who were not sci-fi/fantasy minded. Thanks for the great insights! At least I know I am not all alone with these thoughts.
